Dr. Angelov Farooq is a proud native of Riverside County. Angelov and his two younger sisters were raised by a single low-income mother who instilled the value of education to transcend their challenging economic circumstances. He is now the Owner of AVM Innovation Consulting, LLC and the Founding Director of the UC Riverside Center for Economic Development.
Angelov is the Chairman of the California Workforce Development Board (CWDB) under Governor Newsom’s administration and has served on the board since 2013. The CWDB collaborates with relevant state agencies to develop a common policy framework for the +$6 billion investment of public workforce and career education that serves over 1.5 million people annually. He is also elected on the Board of Education for the Riverside Unified School District (governing 50 public schools).
In 2019, Angelov was appointed to co-chair CA Treasurer Fiona Ma's Housing, Economic Development, Job Creation & Opportunity Zone Advisory Committee. He is an appointee of State Controller Yee on her Council of Economic Advisors. Angelov is a member of the Pacific Council on International Policy and a founding Board of Director for the ExCITE technology incubator/accelerator also.
Angelov attended public schools growing up in Riverside County and earned his Bachelor's Degree from UC Berkeley. He earned his Executive Master & Doctorate of Policy, Planning & Development degrees from the University of Southern California.
Angelov and his wife, Vessy, have a daughter named Maya. They also serve together as a 'Big Couple' for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Inland Empire; that focuses on empowering children facing adversity.
